The first thing you’ll probably notice about [twelve one and two] is its simplicity.  No electric guitars.  No over-polished vocals or keyboard parts.  No string
sections or nifty production gimmicks.  It’s all about the
songs and the unique approach by three musicians to make those songs beautiful.

Taking songs of the church out of their comfort zone and placing them in the hands of jazz musicians seemed completely logical at the time, but it was a risky affair that could have resulted in a set of tracks that never saw the light of day.  Instead, it resulted in a simple, but powerful recording that reveals the power of melody, the passion of lyric, and the beauty of expression.

If you’ve ever seen a good jazz trio live, you’ve witnessed a synergy of forms, styles and expressions converging to create a powerful, free musical art form.  This recording brings some of those elements, grooves, liberty, and individuality and transfers them to the music of the church - both contemporary and traditional.
