return to me…

“Return To Me” is a song that I had put on the shelf for many reasons, but with our nation involved in a great financial tug and a new election, I thought this song served as a timely word on God’s continued call to us to return to our first love and a reliance solely based in Him. This song is not an indictment on a political view or particular position, but a song about the proper placement of trust.  May it challenge you and may it cause you to be drawn deeper into a faith that only God can satisfy.

Return To Me
words & music by randy bonifield

We’ve been having this same conversation,
For too long, it seems to me,
And our loyalty has been mistaken,
For faith in the One who set us all free.
And we justify living a life without trust,
By storing up treasures that weather and rust,
And placing our hopes in the promise of what we can see.

“Return to me, return to me,”
Calls a Father who desperately cries
That His children be free.
“Return to me, return to me,
And I will be there by your side,
If you only believe,
And if you return to me.”

We have taken the faith of our fathers,
And replaced it with money and power,
And we’ve destined our sons and our daughters,
To pick up the pieces of what we devoured.
And nothing is sacred where nothing is spared;
To gain man’s approval is all that we care,
And all that we’ve honored and held is thrown in the sea.

“Return to me, return to me,”
Calls a Father who desperately cries
That His children be free.
“Return to me, return to me,
And I will be there by your side,
If you only believe.”

And what does it profit? What do we gain?
We can’t serve two masters and love them the same,
We have to decide where we stand and what we believe.

“Return to me, return to me,”
Calls a Father who desperately cries
That His children be free.
“Return to me, return to me,
And I will be there by your side,
If you only believe,
And if you return to me.”

my cynical mouth…

A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past, he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future.

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.”

michael ramsden @ Christ Community - 10/11/08

I posted a couple days ago about Michael Ramsden’s visit to Christ Community Church’s God @ Work Conference.  I have attached Michael’s Saturday presentation, “Too Scared To Talk” for your edification.  This is a wonderful presentation on evangelism and asking the right questions.  Michael is a fantastic communicator and I highly recommend taking a listen.  You can also access the mp3 by clicking here.

michael ramsden @ Christ Community - 10/12/08

I had the distinct privilege of hearing Michael Ramsden speak at the God @ Work conference this weekend.  In addition, he delivered a wonderful address this morning at Christ Community Evangelical Free Church which I highly recommend setting aside time to absorb.  Michael is a passionate speaker, evangelist and apologist with Ravi Zacharias’ RZIM Zacharias Trust and in this timely message, Michael breaks down derivatives, the world financial crisis, and how moral failure has brought about a broken world with broken systems and broken people.  Using Isaiah 1 as his Biblical text, this is an incredibly timely and compelling message you can listen to at this site or by clicking on the play button below.
